Hair color is so exciting! It is one of the easiest things to change that can completely transform a person’s look. It can be as close to natural as one would like or as far on the opposite end of the spectrum.
For as long as I can remember I have I had long blond hair. I was born with blond hair and as I’ve gotten older it has gotten darker. Now, I couldn’t tell you what color my “natural” color is. I am sure you have already figured that out.
After having my first son I was very ready for a change in the hair style department. I started looking for inspiration all over. There was no such thing as Pinterest at this time so the majority of my inspiration came from hair style magazines. People used to tell me that I would end up cutting my hair once I had children and I really never put an ounce of thought into it. Until I did. I would not have considered myself spontaneous or particularly edgy at this time in my life but I was ready and I wanted dramatic.
I gathered two of my closest friends up and we went to the hair salon with my new hairstyle picks. I did not tell the husband exactly what I was going to do. He just knew I was going to the hair salon. I have always felt surprising him in this way is exciting. For example, on a random Saturday I went with one of these two girlfriends, earlier mentioned, and had my nose pierced. Good thing he isn’t against piercings! Lol!
Me and my two girlfriends spent the entire day at the hair salon where I decided on a short-angled bob cut with a brand-new color as well. We didn’t just get haircuts this day. It was an experience. It was so much fun laughing and indulging in all things glam and girly together. I went from having very light blond hair to dark DARK brown and added peek a boo purple highlights.
I was transformed! Literally. I could not stop looking at myself in the mirror. Every time I would catch glimpse in the passenger side mirror of the car I would do a double take. I just did not look like myself. And I loved every bit of it. The ladies at the salon and my girlfriends could not stop raving about how great my hair looked and just how fitting it was. I was hooked.
From this point on I maintained my short hair as I too felt it fit me best. I quickly transferred hair salons to a girl that is more local to where I live as I didn’t realize just how much maintenance short hair required. I am so glad for switching because my girl that cuts and colors my hair now is a hair genius! She is truly doing what she was made to do!
I kept the brown and purple for a couple of years adding in hints of pink and blue here and there when one day, Cassie asked if I would be willing to try something new. At this point trying something different had become second nature and I was absolutely down for it.
Three hours later I walked out of her salon with fire engine red hair and I literally could not stand myself! I loved it! I wasn’t really sure how I would feel about the red because it was all over and super bright but I was mesmerized. I went home to Michael and he was speechless. Lol. I wasn’t sure about that except that when he finally could speak he was nothing but positive.
From this point on I literally could not go anywhere without someone complimenting either my color or my cut. The Husband and I actually counted it up one day for fun and it totaled over 20 compliments in one day while out and about. It has become so much of the norm that my girlfriends find it comical when with me. I am asked on average daily who does my hair and I simply provide Cassie’s card and let them know to ask for the cut and color that “Jackie” has as she would know exactly what they want.
As you can tell this is where the title of this blog post comes from. I have now had the same red color for more than four years. I worry that people would not know what to do with me if I were to change it.
I work for a company that has A LOT of employees and in the role that I am in I am seen by more people than I actually see myself. I hope that makes sense. Due to this I cannot even count how many times people have come up to me to tell me they have seen me in public somewhere.
This summer I was baptized (one the most amazing experiences of my life. More about that at a later time!) and at the church we attend – in the summer it is a big event and is captured on video to share with the church. Well The Husband and I were part of the video and to this day I am recognized at work by that video. The number one statement that follows the recognition is “I recognized you by your hair”.
